ABOUT CATALYST
The Story Behind the Platform
How a gap in M&A analysis became the foundation for a new kind of coverage platform.
OUR STORY
Why Catalyst Was Founded
Catalyst M&A Group was founded from a simple observation: existing M&A analysis platforms almost always cover transactions from a single angle. Financial analysis platforms focus on valuation and strategic rationale. Legal commentary covers regulatory approvals and deal structure. Rarely do both perspectives sit side by side on the same transaction.
That disconnect doesn’t reflect how deals actually work. In practice, investment bankers, M&A lawyers, and regulatory specialists are all in the room shaping the same transaction. The financial structure influences the legal risk allocation. The regulatory pathway affects the deal timeline and pricing. These perspectives are inseparable — yet most analysis treats them as entirely separate disciplines.
Catalyst was built to close that gap. By organising contributors into investment banking sector desks and specialist legal roles, we produce coverage that mirrors how professional deal teams actually operate — giving readers a complete picture of transaction execution that no single-perspective platform can offer.
“Every deal tells two stories. We believe you need both to understand what really happened.”

EDITORIAL STANDARDS
How We Ensure Quality
Every analysis is built on primary sources and professional research tools — not secondary summaries or press coverage.
Primary Source Research
Contributors work from SEC EDGAR filings, LSE RNS announcements, merger proxies, credit agreements, and regulatory submissions — the same documents professionals rely on in practice.
Professional Data Platforms
Financial analysis is supported by S&P Capital IQ for valuation data, transaction comparables, and capital structure details. Debt analysis draws on platforms like 9fin for covenant terms and leveraged finance data.
Structured Templates
Both investment banking and legal articles follow established analytical frameworks — ensuring consistent depth and quality across contributors while allowing each specialist’s expertise to come through.
Editorial Review
All published analysis is reviewed for accuracy, analytical rigour, and adherence to Catalyst’s professional standards before publication — maintaining the credibility our readers expect.
